Cosmetic Dental Q&A

Read the answers to commonly asked questions about our cosmetic dental services below:

How do porcelain veneers compare to tooth bonding?

Dental veneers and tooth bonding treatments are similar in that they can cover areas of tooth discoloration or dental injuries. They also make the smile appear more uniform and better aligned. However, porcelain veneers cover the front of teeth, while dental bonding uses a malleable material to add on to or cover the enamel. Veneers last longer, but dental bonding provides a more economical treatment.

Am I a candidate for Invisalign treatment?

Teens and adults who have mild to moderate orthodontic concerns are great candidates for Invisalign. For patients with more severe overcrowding or crooked teeth, we will recommend metal braces or oral surgery. We also recommend Invisalign to older patients because of higher compliance rates. It is simpler for adults to care for their aligners and ensure that they are keeping them clean and in their case when not in use.

Can I whiten crowns, veneers, and bonded teeth?

No, dental crowns, porcelain veneers, and bonded teeth do not respond to teeth whitening treatments. They are made of ceramic or biocompatible materials that cannot be whitened. However, they can brighten the appearance of one or more teeth. If you have an old cosmetic restoration, we can help. Dr. Leatherwood and her team can plan your new dental crown, porcelain veneers, or tooth bonding treatment.
